Fatalities Confirmed After Reported Explosion at U.K. Arena Where Ariana Grande Performed Monday


Police said a “serious incident” and “a number” of fatalities were reported at Manchester Arena in the U.K. on Monday night, where Ariana Grande performed a concert, PEOPLE confirms.

“Emergency services responding to serious incident at Manchester Arena. Avoid the area,” police tweeted about 11:30 p.m. local time. “More details will follow as soon as available.”
In a statement, police said there were “a number of confirmed fatalities and others injured.”
Local authorities could not immediately be reached for further comment and the exact timing of the incident was unclear, whether it occurred during or after the official performance.
“Ariana is okay,” a rep for Grande said in a statement to PEOPLE. “We are further investigating what happened.”
An unknown number of people were killed and injured after one or more loud bangs were heard Monday night at an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena in England.
Greater Manchester Police said only that there were "a number of confirmed fatalities and injuries" as hundreds of fans fled the arena. Emergency crews rushed to the scene after the possible blasts, which were first reported about 10:40 p.m. (5:40 p.m. ET).
