A Shared History of Cancer, a Love of Baseball and a Cubs-Mets Game

Two weeks ago,  Sandy Alderson  was sitting in the waiting room at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Alderson, the Mets’ general manager, has been cancer-free since May 2016, but he has to go for checkups every four months. While waiting, Alderson picked up the spring issue of the hospital newsletter. The cover story — written in the first person — was about a fervent  Chicago Cubs  fan named Abby Wood, and how her favorite team and her lucky Cubs hat helped her get through her battle with lymphoma. And that when the team won the World Series last season — after an  epic 108-year wait  — it felt intensely special to her because two of the Cubs’ most prominent players, Anthony Rizzo and Jon Lester, are also cancer survivors. Cristiano Ronaldo: I'm leaving Real Madrid, there's no turning back

here was shock across the footballing world on Friday with the news that  Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Real Madrid , including in Russia, where the Portugal national team are preparing for the Confederations Cup. The player has told his international teammates that his decision is final and that he truly will depart the Spanish capital. "I am leaving Real Madrid," he told his Portuguese colleagues. "I have made a decision. "There is no turning back." Also coming as a surprise to those in the Portugal camp was the A Bola front page from earlier in the week, which stated that an offer of 180 million euros will be made for the 32-year-old this summer.

Rachel Lindsay's 'The Bachelorette' Suitors Reveal the Weird Things They Packed for the Show

It's that time again: ABC's  The Bachelorette  premieres tonight with  Rachel Lindsay  in charge, and 31 eligible (or so we think) bachelors hoping to claim her heart. (It must go well because spoiler alert:  She's engaged .) The day before filming began,  Glamour  headed up the 101 Freeway in Los Angeles to meet five of Rachel's suitors and see the rather interesting belongings they packed. Oddest thing in DeMario's suitcase : A T-shirt with a collage of Justin Bieber's faces and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle onesie. Here's why : "I'm a 30-year-old eight-year-old. I eat fruit snacks regularly. I'm a huge Justin Bieber fan. I go to all the concerts. As a kid, I was obsessed with the Ninja Turtles. My mom thought I was going to be a little weirdo.
